EMS Training Studies

EMS – studies in older people

As a department of research into musculoskeletal diseases we study the consequences of physical training on muscle and bone parameters in elderly people.

EMS Training on Cycling Performance

Effects of an 8-Week Whole-Body Electromyostimulation Training on Cycling Performance, Back Pain, and Posture of a 17-Year-Old Road Cyclist

Whole-Body EMS on Physical Fitness in Postmenopausal Women

A sedentary lifestyle is deeply rooted in the Europeanpopulation, mainly in the elderly. This experimental study analyzed the impact of WB-EMS on thephysical fitness of postmenopausal women.

The effect of 6 weeks EMS training and aerobic exercise on body composition of overweight women.

A randomized controlled study. After 6 weeks, both groups showed improvement in weight and body composition parameters based on bioimped-ance (BIA) without statistical differences between groups

Effects of Whole-Body EMS and Resistance Training on Body Composition and Maximal Strength in Trained Women

Intragroup comparison in WB-EMS group showed a significant difference in BF% and LBM (P ≤ 0.05); while in the intergroup comparison, no significant difference was observed between the WB-EMS group and CG.

The effects of whole-body EMS in comparison to a multimodal treatment concept in patients with non-specific chronic back pain

In the intervention group, 128 patients with low back pain were enrolled, 85 in the WB-EMSgroup and 43 in the ACG. 34 subjects were allocated to the passive control group. The aver-age age was 58.6 years (18–86 years).

Effects of Whole-Body EMS versus High-Intensity Resistance Exercise on Body Composition and Strength: A Randomized Controlled Study

In summary, we observed comparable or at least similar increases of muscle parameters after 16 weeks of WB-EMS compared with the reference method “HIT.” Thus, WB-EMS can be considered as an attractive, time-efficient, and effective option to HIT-resistance exercise for people seeking to improve general strength and body composition.

Efficacy of Whole-Body EMS on Body Composition and Muscle Strength in Non-athletic Adults

Although this systematic review and meta-analysis provided further evidence of WB-EMS effects on body composition and strength, its generability refers predominately to moderately old to older untrained or at least non-athletic cohorts.

Effects of whole-body EMS on health and performance: a systematic review

A total of 21 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed following the guidelines of the Cochrane Guide for Systematic Reviews. Nineteen studies analyzed the chronic effects of WB-EMS, and 2 analyzed acute effects with a total of 505 subjects (310 men and 195 women)

The effects of EMS training in comparison to other strength training methods

A range of different strength parameters were tested in this EMS research project and some of the most interesting and significant results were found for maximum strength and maximum power outputs. Compared to the other training methods that were tested in this research, the EMS training accounted for similar and even better test results than traditional strength training methods.

Scientifically proven effects of EMS

87% of the participants completely improved their attitude towards their body as they progressed 89% of participants observed a firmer body. Women lost an average of 1.5 inches around the waist and hips. Each man included in the study lost an average of 2-3 centimeters in the waist and 1-2 centimeters more muscle volume in the legs, arms and chest. Overweight subjects lost an average of 3.5 pounds and 9% of body fat, up to 6.5 inches around the waist, 2 inches in the upper arms after just four weeks of the program.

EMS Workout: What It Is and What Science Has to Say

EMS workouts are relatively new, but it’s a technique that’s already been used by physical therapists for years. They use EMS machines to increase blood flow to an area and help reduce muscle damage to an injury.

Not just that but my overall strength has really improved, particularly my core strength, which helps me with everyday life. What I didn’t expect to gain from EMS was a new-found mental strength. I truly mean it when I say my spirit now feels more energised. I so look forward to my weekly sessions, they give me a real focus and are a staple part of my routine.

Another real benefit is not having to use any gym equipment. For me, this makes it much less daunting than having to handle huge weights. I think a lot of older people would agree. EMS takes the intimidation of exercise away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) training uses a wearable device that attaches to the body while performing a series of basic exercises guided by a specialised personal trainer. The device accelerates the effectiveness of these practices by stimulating your muscles through tiny electrodes, thus enhancing your workout- and body-toning results.

It is an excellent tool for many things, such as muscle building and strengthening and as an injury or pain treatment solution.

Training and therapy using EMS are not dangerous. You will experience small low-frequency currents contracting your muscles during your EMS training. Hence, the impulses do not seem foreign to your body and do not reach the organs.

EMS training is an ultra-modern system that intensifies your workout by contracting the muscles during basic exercise practises (like bicep curls with light weights, lunges, squats, jogging on the spot, sit-ups, and scissoring legs) without putting any strain on your joints.

When EMS is combined with gentle movements, it builds muscle strength in weak and injured muscles in a safe, effective, and targeted way.

It also stimulates blood flow to repair damaged muscles – making it an excellent injury or pain treatment solution.

EMS training is backed by scientific research which shows that it is an effective way to keep fit, lose weight, reduce back pain, strengthen muscles and get the most out of your workout without any strain on joints or muscles.

EMS training has been used for years by health and wellness professionals. Physiotherapists use EMS for joint-sparing muscle formation and for targeted back exercises. Elite athletes and models use this equipment along with their training to improve strength and speed.

Personal trainers, gyms and beauty centres use this technology, focusing on the fitness and beauty enhancements it offers, which include simulation of metabolism, tightening of connective tissue, cellulite reduction, body shaping, and more.

In short, EMS activates 300+ muscles (over 90% of the muscles fibres) at the same time during your 20-minute workout.

This also includes deep muscles which are difficult to target at the conventional gym. Moreover, EMS training comprises of irregular muscle fibre simulation which results in an increased muscle fibre creation at a faster rate, allowing you to gain more muscles. All in all, you will see faster results!

No! EMS technology was first invented in 1902, has been used for years in physiotherapy, by athletes and models and through EMS FIT Chiswick is now available to you! At EMS FIT Chiswick we use the latest technology by Miha Bodytec.

You will notice better posture and muscle tightening within the first few sessions. You will see visible results, including weight loss and body shaping, with continued use of EMS training within the first 10 sessions.

YES! EMS training has two main parts. The first is weight loss visible through the inches you will lose at the waist, hips, etc., while the second comprises burning those fat deposits!
